In a game which saw three ties and five lead changes, the DRays survived a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning and defeated the Yankees 7-6 for their first victory of the season. Played in chilly, 38 degree weather with a steady 10 mph breeze out to left, the Rays got hits from every starter except Ty Wigginton. The bottom third of the order in particular, Akinori Iwamura, B.J. Upton and Josh Paul had two hits each, with Iwamura scoring three runs. Carl Crawford continued his hot start with two hits, and rookie Elijah Dukes chipped in a solo homer, his second of the season. Starting pitcher Jae Seo gave up 11 hits and five earned runs in his six and a third innings but was picked up by his bullpen, specifically Brian Stokes and Al Reyes, who recorded his first save in a Tampa uniform.

On the Yankees side, Robinson Cano hit leadoff in the absence of Johnny Damon and had three hits. The bottom of the Yankees order was also pretty successful, with Hideki Matsui having two hits and two RBI, Jorge Posada three hits and Doug Mientkewicz two. The middle of the order struggled, with Bobby Abreu, Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi going a combined 2-12 with one RBI and stranding 14 runners. The Yankees also committed three errors, two by Jeter, and could have easily been charged with two more. Starting pitcher Andy Pettitte struggled in his return to New York, throwing a whopping 83 pitches in his four innings, allowing six hits and walking three. Relievers Scott Proctor and eventual loser Luis Vizcaino had issues as well.

Typical Rays, folks. You better watch your asses! They play hard, they play fast, they get dirt under their fingernails. They're young, unimpressed and ready to steal games away. Most of the world is stuck living in the past. These aren't your slightly older brother's Devil Rays... it's 2007, bitches!!!

Stokes made some outstanding pitches in the eight inning when he retired Derek Jeter, Abreu, and A-Rod in the snow. It was an impressive win that carried over in to tonight's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays in their home opener.
