An emotional day all around at Yankee Stadium. Melanie Lidle, widow of Cory Lidle (who was killed in a plane crash last October), and her son Christopher got to throw out the first pitch to start the 2007 season. Then, halfway through the third inning, Bobby Murcer appeared on the Yanks' Diamondvision, much to a standing ovation and a roar from the crowd.
Highlights from the game:
- Alex Rodriguez misplays a pop-up in the first, then strikes out in the bottom half thereof, then reedems himself by hitting the game-winning homer in the bottom of the eighth to cap off an onslaught of D-Rays relief pitching
- Carl Pavano gets off to a great start, but doesn't get out of the fifth inning when the Rays take a 5-3 lead
- Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi getting hits when they mattered the most
A come-from-behind win on Opening Day...same as last year against the Royals.
