Sweeping On Up

New York Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez is on a roll.

Just in his second start of the season, Martinez was able to help the Mets beat the Houston Astros 4-1.

Starting off fast was the key. In the bottom of the first inning Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran singled to right field. Mets second basemen Luis Castillo was able to reach home. This lead to 1-0 score.

At the bottom of the third inning, Beltran hit a sacrifice fly. Pedro Martinez was able to score, and the Mets were up 2-0.

Mets outfielder Moises Alou homered to left field at the bottom of the fifth inning, which lead Beltran to score. The Mets were up 4-0.

Houston Astros right fielder Luke Scott hit a home run at the top of the sixth, and that was their only run.

The Astros lineup was able to get 10 hits, but reaching home plate was something they didn't achieve.

Pedro Martinez played the biggest part in this win. He pitch for five innings, with four strike out. In only his second start, Pedro has a season ERA of 1.80 and is 2-0.

Putting numbers up in the post-season will help the Mets, because they need all the help they can get. And Pedro is giving it to them, and being able to pitch five shut out innings was great. It's almost like Pedro Martinez was never injured.

Carlos Beltran had the best performance in the line-up. He went two for three, and two RBI's. With this production, the Mets were able to come away with the win.

This line-up has been able to score runs, but they weren't great in their win against the Houston Astros. Even though they won

Mets shortstop Jose Reyes was 0 for 3, Luis Castillo was 1 for 3. Catcher Paul Lo Duca was 1 for 4.

Every team has struggles in the season, but the Mets need everyone to produce.

The Mets are still in a comfortable spot in the National League East. They have a six game lead.

Facing the Atlanta Braves next is going to be interesting. The Mets had their way against them the last time, because they swept them in four games. But they're 7-8 facing the Braves this season.

Losing to the Florida Marlins 7-4 hurt the Braves, because now they're 8 games back of the lead in the National League East.

Making the playoffs isn't going to happen for the Braves, and winning this next series against the Mets is going to be hard.

Im a little worried about Reyes. He's hit a bit of a slump here over the last couple of weeks and I dont know if its because he is tiring out or not. But I would hope Willie gives him a couple of games off here and there now that Gomez is back to make sure he's fresh for the Playoffs. HUGE week this week...I mean basically deciding the division this week we do well against ATL and PHIL.

Pedro has proved a lot to me pitching this well after being out so long with the injury. He may have won 300 games if he hadn't had so much time off for injuries.
