Super Bowl Will Be Super Bore

Today is the Conference Championship Game. In so many ways, it is probably the best day of the entire football season and that even includes the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl has had its fair share of blowouts and unwatchable games. At least, conference games are entertaining and you see both very good teams fight it off till the end. There is a good possibility that this year's Super Bowl could be very boring again which is why today's conference championship games is a can't miss. Fans have to pray and root for extra hard for the Saints and the Colts to pull it out.

The New England Patriots and the Chicago Bears should win their games today. There are many things that favor them.

The Bears have everything going for them right now. They got cold elements at Soldier Field. Dome teams and warm-weather teams tend to struggle at this time of the year which is why home-field advantage is a must. This is an incentive to why every team has to play hard in the regular season so they are not in that position. Bears defense have been good and there is no reason to think the Saints will finally figure it out. Rex Grossman has stepped up when he has to. This is going to be a tall order for the Saints.

The Patriots are just kings come January. They are to January to what the Yankees used to be in October. They just win. They have the best coach in football and they got the best quarterback in football. Deadly combination indeed. Quite frankly, it will be tough for the Cinderella teams to overcome. When you are good, you are just good.

Bears and the Patriots sure know how to win.

The Saints have been a great story this year. No one expected them to do well. Heck it is amazing that the Saints were able to return home after what Hurricane Katrina did to that beautiful city in New Orleans. Great things have just happened to them. They hit a homerun hiring the NFL's Coach of the Year, Sean Payton. They were able to get Drew Brees healthy and productive. They were lucky to get Reggie Bush thanks to the Texans's stupidity. They were able to make it work with Deuce McAllister and Bush. They were able to win. They could not have been worst after an awful coaching job by former head coach, Jim Haislett, but who knew that they would be in the NFC Championship Game. They always had the talent, but who knew this would work right away. It takes two or three years for the new coach to have his imprint on the team. What he and Jets head coach Eric Mangini did was simply amazing. Chicagoians obviously want to see this beautiful story to end because they want to see their team in Miami, where the Super Bowl will be held.

With that said, it would be sad to see the Saints not be there in the Super Bowl. It would not feel right. It would be a great story for football and the city of New Orleans if the Saints went there. Think how New Orleans will recover from what happened last year. Think how people will be happy. Think about how sports can make a city rejoice and proud. Does anyone think Chicago will have problems if the Bears lose? Chicago will always be a beautiful city and they will always have it good. Chicago will always have its arrogance. Just going by the city, you can sense it. The city will not die if the Bears lose. With New Orleans, the city needs every hope they can get. The city still need America's support and the Saints going to the Super Bowl could be the tonic of things going right. Why would anyone not root for the Saints?

The Colts have to be another sentimental team that fans have to root for. Peyton Manning is a great quarterback and a great human being. No one takes his craft seriously like Peyton. He wants to win so bad. He put a lot of time at this. For whatever reason, it has not worked out. One of the storylines that comes out in the postseason is if this the yeart that Peyton finally gets to the Super Bowl. You hope that he gets there. He is as deserving as any football player that get the ring. We watch sports because we want to guys like Peyton get that championship. Also, Tony Dungy definitely deserves a championship. He is a great coach and he is one of the nicest human being in the planet. If there were people like Tony, this world would be in a better place right now. It's about time that those two get what they deserve and how nice would it be if they overcome their demons against the hated Patriots.

The nice thing about the Saints and Colts is that they can score and they are so exciting. Football fans can not say the same about the Patriots and Bears. Both teams win ugly and they are just boring to watch. The NHL's New Jersey Devils are much fun to watch compare to those two. Heck watching paint dry or watching Brad Chldress' team perform the overrated West Coast offense is more exciting.

The NFL and CBS have to pray that the Saints and the Colts somehow get it done under tough circumstances. Bostonaians and Chicagoians can talk about how their teams will provide big ratings because of the market they are in and the fact they reside all over the country, but the reality is most football fans prefer to see that matchup than a chess matchup between Pats and Bears.

Sadly, bad guys always win in sports. When has a good guy really come through when it counts?

I, along with many people I know and many people I've heard talking in the media, are rooting for the Bears. If the Saints are in the Super Bowl I probably won't watch it. I'm not going to listen to four more hours of stories about people that build their city in a huge hole and were suprised when that hole filled up with water. Especially with all the political crap that will be interwoven into the whole thing.

Totally Agree. I will watch regardless, but I won't stand for the crap stories about how sad they were when their city built below Sea Level got filled up with water.

Almost as stupid as building some of your biggest cities on one of the more fragile geological faultlines in the world! How stupid would that be! Hang on...

That one was an accident though... It's pretty obvious that New Orleans should naturally be covered in water, just look at how the city is kept from filling up with water.

I wish they would have listened to my idea - (you know, because I have all the answers) BUST ALL of the levees and turn New Orleans into New Venice!!! It just would have been easier.

New Orleans was built by the French. We can't expect it to make any sense. Likewise SF and LA by the Mexicans. What was the last natural disaster to hit New York?

? What was the last natural disaster to hit Salt Lake City? It was built by Mormons, so there goes your argument. Sometimes people (except for the french) just get lucky and pick a good spot. New York is a couple good seasons of global warming away from becoming Atlantis. (and also in not prepared for a Class IV or V hurricane. Just because it hasn't happened, doesn't mean it can't) Blackout anyone?

LA and SF were founded by Spanish, not Mexicans - it just seems that way. BUT they were both BUILT by Americans... the SAME people who brought you the Corvair, deadly additives in your tobacco, hydrogenated oil, New Coke and nuclear weapons!!!

Manny, I think you got the answer, let the Mormons re-build New Orleans! And of course Chicago needs this. They are home to the Cubs. Maybe not a natural disaster, but one nonetheless. I don't hear the media promoting that storyline.

Yeah, I love how Chicago gets no respect in baseball, or how the White Sox get NO love from their own town... oh yeah, the 2005 World Series winners!

Here's my recap of a 2005 September afternoon spent in a layover at O'Hare - 30 TVS, 28 with the Cubs game on, one with CNN, one with the White Sox. I'm not kidding.

I do like the new pic, Enybo. Cubs are just small bears after all...

The most rediculous thing to me is how quite the media is to milk the tragedy of New Orleans and Spike Lee can release a multi-disc movie about that whole thing but it's considered completely inappropiate to even talk about 9/11, let alone show pictures or make movies about it.

human element... Terrorism is unthinkable, irrational and should never happen; people dying at the hands of Mother Nature is unfortunate (even if they knew it was going to happen someday and failed to prepare adequately) Yet they make movies about murderers and killing all the time; yes, the world is screwed up.
