Suns Should Let Marion Go

Personally, I feel that the Suns should let Marion go. That way, they will have money available to buy good shooters and get rid of James Jones and Eddie House who are too inconsistent to keep on the team.

The Suns have too many guys up front. Next year, they will have Marion, Tim Thomas, Kurt Thomas, Diaw, and Stoudemire. They should probably get rid of one of them.

Tim Thomas has proven himself invaluable because he is one of their best three-point shooters. Kurt Thomas is a good interior defender and decent shooter who will have no problem taking a smaller role. Stoudemire is a no brainer.

The choice ultimately comes down to Diaw or Marion. The reason I choose Marion is because Diaw goes for layups and dunks when he gets inside. Throughout these playoffs, Marion has shown himself to be intimidated when he gets inside and just flips shots up hoping they will go in. He does not think dunk first. He has not shown any confidence against Odom, Kaman, Brand, and Dirk in these playoffs.

Diaw will make Phoenix fans say "Marion who" just like he made fans say "Stoudemire who" this season. Get rid of Marion. What do you guys think?

I can't believe you just wrote that Tim Thomas has proven invaluable and that he is a good three point shooter. The guy is terrible, he's got a terrible attitude, and everywhere he goes, he makes people worse. He can't defend, he can't rebound, and the teams he plays on can't win. He should not be playing in the NBA. The WNBA is more suited for her.

Tim Thomas stretches out the defense, and he has been on fire these playoffs. He is even the reason the Suns got past the Lakers. The Suns should keep him because he is willing to take big shots

The way I see it, the Suns will eventually have to pay big money for Amare, Nash, Diaw, and Marion. That's alot of money, so theyre going to have to get rid of someone. Diaw has the edge over Marion in that he can dish out assists and has an impact on the game. Marion just kinda hangs in the background unless the Suns are blowing the team out in which case he finds confidence for breakaway dunks

I appreciate your opinion, but the only reason to rid yourself of Marion for Diaw, is for financial reasons. While Diaw had a very impressive post-season, Marion is a legitimate All-Star. He has played at a high level for years, while Diaw has just recently proven his worth. Marion is also one of the best rebounders in the league, and perhaps, the best rebounder under 6'8. The Suns are small and will remain that way, so it is improtant to have strong rebounding from the wing players. But, if the Suns chose to move Marion and use his cap room for other needs, than Diaw is a very competent solution to replace Marion. I don't, however, believe that the Suns would have such a knee-jerk reaction based on one good post-season from Diaw. They can, and will, rid their pay-roll of Tim Thomas and continue to use Diaw as a solid back-up to Marion and Stoudemire next season.

Tim Thomas does not stretch out any defenses. He can't shoot, nobody is going to cover him behind the 3 point line.

Uh? Maybe we're talking about a different Tim Thomas, but the one I've been watching has pretty much only hit clutch three's and at times kept his team in the game. Bad attitude or not the man has been unconscience behind the arc this post season. As far as Marion goes the Suns would be crazy to get rid of him now. Like NBA Superblog just said unless it's to save some cap room you have to keep him. With Amare and Kurt Thomas back next year the suns are going to be scary to try and match up with. Bring Diaw off the bench with Barbosa and Tim Thomas and the Suns Depth problems vanish.

A recent article I read says that the Suns know they are really close to a championship, so alot of the players have stated that they are willing to stick around to just get it done.

As for getting rid of Marion which they talk about constantly, D'Antoni said its stupid to talk about that since they have all they need for the championship. As for Tim Thomas, it will be really hard to keep him, but they'll try. He even states he wants to stay

Marrion is better than Diaw now because he is a better rebounder and he is a excellent defender. However, Diaw's potential is much greater, he has a pretty good mid range shot, great post moves, and most importantly, great court vision; which will always get you playing time in Phoenix. So, I think you have to take the gamble and let go of Marrion, even though he has been a mainstay there for years
