Oh well, another 15 game winning streak down the drain... Memo to the teams of the NBA: If you have a double-digit winning streak, you don't want to play the Washington Wizards.
Early Side note, this was the second highest scoring game in the NBA this season (or since the last time I wrote about the Suns)
Stealth: Agent 0: Wow! The 60 you drop on Kobe's dome is tasty. The 54 you tack on my team to set a new building record; not so cool, wild cat. Headline: Arenas has Arena's record. So punny.
Gil has the eye of the Tiger (on his chest at worst). He's still angry no one thought he was going to play college basketball. He's still pissed he was a second rounder. He's still miffed He's still got his panties in a bunch about LeBron yapping in his ear on those playoff free throws. He's still livid about getting canned by Mike D'Antoni & Nate McMillen (watch out Portland) from Team MeSA this summer.
Kobe is a textbook/amateur psychiatrist's dreampatient. You can read him like an overhead Projector. He ripped Gil's smooth stroke and laser-like shooter's touch. Gil's shots go STRAIGHT through the rim (except for that bankshot that nearly broke the backboard), like a lava knife through spray butter. Kobe says Evil Bert's shots are ill advised, I say any shot inside half court (and one beyond half-court) is his to take.
Wade, LeBron, Kobe, Carmelo, Iverson... where is Arenas in the list amongst these scorers after this week? Whew! Then again, I suggested he might win a scoring title one day
The Bullets don't win this game if not for:
- the shiny horrific uni's that I actuallyu kinda like a little, even if they are aesthetically putrid.
- Caron Butler had a career night.
- The Wiz enjoy ending streaks.
- Cal Booth is a living train wreck
- It was their night
The Suns had reasons to pack it in early, but they didn't. They showed heart and played HARD. This is the kind of games championship teams have. Close OT losses to teams that play out of their minds.
Hmm. I haven't written an in depth review in... Quite a while... 15 games ago, to be exact.
I told you the "Moment it happened" was Jumaine Jones getting in the game against Memphis in a close game. The Suns were down tonight early. They had every excuse (more on those in a bit). Jumaine got in the game and made meaningful contributions, hustled, drained a big 3 and drew a charge. The Suns stormed back from a huge early deficit to get it within single digits into the 4th quarter. Jumaine Jones is a catalyst for this team. Guys are fuming on the bench because they know a scrub is getting their run. Jalen Rose is probably double guessing himself at times...
I told you Amare's knee was fine, it was his head that needed straightened. Funny what winning does. Amare was a BEAST tonight. For the haters/doubters/not-knowers, Amarknee kept the Suns in this game singlehandedly on playing HUGE DEFENSE, sheer hustle-work-determination and acting as one-man wrecking crew on court.
Amare Stoudemire - 2007 Western Conference All-Star - Get your votes in now.
Boris Diaw, you're still my second favorite player in the game.
Why don't I write MORE about the Suns you ask??? (you probably didn't but suffer along regardless) What do I have to tell you about the Suns? Did you know they're really good? You don't watch them enough? They are a sheer joy to watch play regardless of outcome? Watching the Suns makes you want to go play basketball? Shave Nest is REALLY REAALLLY good? "Boris Diaw" is French for Magic Johnson? Shawn Marion, oh yeah Shawn Marion?? Amare Stoudemire is the least stoppable force in the game? L e a n d r o B a r b o s a is freekin' fast??? Raja Bell has a very large heart/set? Pat Burke is an Animal???
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO HEAR/SEE/TASTE before you believe it?
The Suns are your 2006-07 NBA (World) champions. Embrace them. Enjoy them. They are here to stay for a while.
