Sunglasses in Seattle?

An http://afraidofedhochuli.blogspot.com BREAKING STORY

ESPN's Buster Olney said today on 950 KJR that he has heard through the “Rumor Mill” that Tony LaRussa would like to coach the Seattle Mariners.
That’s right, Baseball’s Corey Hart may want to come to the Pacific Northwest looking to "keep track of the visions in his eyes".

Per Baseball-reference.com: his record is .534 with 5 trips to the World Series, 2 resulting in hoisting the trophy.

You may all remember that he took a team (2006 St. Louis Cardinals) that was mediocre (83-78) to the World Series and beat the Detroit Tigers, who were seen as the best team in the league. But he also took the Oakland Athletics to Consecutive World Series in the 1988, ‘89 and ‘90 seasons. The 89 ending in a World Series win.

This guy can coach.

What Olney said was that LaRussa liked what the Mariners have done with their team (even though most pundits don’t) and would look into the job if it came available.

My Question: Would the M’s Front office do this? They wouldn’t hire Dusty Baker (Remember Bob Melvin) and they fired Lou Piniella. They don’t like guys that rock the boat. But, there was rumbling that the Cardinals’ GM Walt Jocketty would be coming with him.

I would like to say, as a Mariners fan. DO IT. Pull the trigger Mariners. These are two guys who have eyes for talent and could get us back to the playoffs. Also, if a guy like LaRussa is in the clubhouse, players will want to be here. Players will sign for cheaper.

This could turn a franchise around. A franchise with the reputation of being slow on the uptake and paying too much for too little. This could change all of that.

It would make this insufferable collapse worth it if those two came on board, but then again any change would be for the better. Bavasi and McLaren are the Horacio Ramirez and Jeff Weaver of management.

Budweiser isn't beer. It's a beer-flavored laxative.

"But he also took the Oakland Athletics to Consecutive World Championships in the 1988, ‘89 and ‘90 seasons." Incorrect. He led the A's to three straight AL pennants, not three world titles. They were eclipsed by the Dodgers in 88 behind Orel Hershisher and Kirk Gibson's game one heroics, and were swept away by Lou Piniella's Reds in 1990.

MOST OVERRATED MANAGER IN BASEBALL HISTORY Look at me, I'm Tony LaRussa! I'll bat a pitcher 8th and get called a genius!! Now I'll sign a bunch of pitchers to face one batter a game, I'm a genius!

Don't forget that this is the guy who "coached" Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire.

You have to admit though, that he is a HUGE step up from what the Northwest has had to put up with since Pinella left.

Tony is getting old too. I understand you want a top-notch manager but you CAN do better! Dusty Baker is out there for instance... ha ha!

Mike Hargrove was not a bad manager...neither was Bob Melvin. They both succeeded in other locales. Living here near STL, I can say with some authority that people are tiring of LaRussa, especially in light of the 11 losses in 12 game stretch here currently. Walt Jocketty is public enemy number 2. They didn't go out and spend any cash, resting on their laurels, and are paying the price.

Complacency is a bitch, and it has hit St. Louis hard this season. Nothing has gone right since they upset the Tigers in the Series last fall.

lol well, I hate the Cards...was glad to see Chicago batter them 3 out of 4 on the weekend, and 11 of 16 for the year. Living here just means you get inundated with Cards coverage and all the whining, complaining, and talk about "you know, if these guys weren't hurt, the Cards would be in a much better spot." Who the hell wouldn't be?

At least LaRussa got to the World Series, which makes Bobby Cox the most overrated manager in history

um Kelsdad... ????????????????????????????????? LaRussa has lost W.S. with WAY better teams than Cox ever had. And LaRussa backed into his only (one more than Cox) W.S. wins - if the earthquake doesn't happen then Stewart and Welch don't pitch twice each in 4 games, while everyone knows that the Tigers purposely tanked the series last year...
