Stu Martin (Stuart McGuire Martin) was born on November 19, 1912 in Rich Square, North Carolina. He made his Major League debut on April 14, 1936 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1936, his rookie year, he hit .298 with 6 home runs and 41 RBI. Martin played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that Stu Martin's best season was 1936, when he hit for a .298 average.

May 31, 1936 - Stu Martin's 4th hit of the game‚ a single in the 12th inning‚ drives in the winning run as the Cards beat the Reds‚ 8-7.

Jun 6, 1936 - Stu Martin‚ Cardinals rookie 2B‚ has his 17-game hitting streak stopped but ties the ML mark with 11 assists in the first game 4-3 loss of a St. Louis-New York doubleheader.

May 26, 1940 - Stu Martin's 1st inning single is the only hit as the Reds defeat the Cardinals 1-0 on Paul Derringer's one-hitter.
