Stop the Press! Ruth Traded to Yankees

This just hit the newswire (keeping consistent with other "timely" articles here at the 'Chair).....

BOSTON, Mass. - Boston Red Sox owner Harry Frazee has confirmed that Babe Ruth has been sold to the New York Yankees for an undisclosed amount of cash.

Frazee released the following statement:

I should have preferred to take players in exchange for Ruth, but no club could have given me the equivalent in men without wrecking itself, and so the deal had to be made on a cash basis. No other club could afford to give me the amount the Yankees have paid for him, and I don’t mind saying I think they are taking a gamble. With this money the Boston club can now go into the market and buy other players and have a stronger and better team in all respects than we would have had if Ruth had remained with us.

Anonymous Red Sox officials were clearly shaken by the deal but confident that Ruth leaving the team would not detract from future Boston World Series championships.

Long time veteran and utility player Julio Franco indicated that Ruth would be missed in the clubhouse but also bravely offered, "Life must go on."

A press conference outlining the details of this transaction is forthcoming.

D'you reckon there's truth in these rumours that they might turn him into a hitter?

The guy's a dud, he's lucky if he hits over .200 next year. Someone in the Sawx locker room has also said something about him using 'performance enhancers', but all they could trace it back to is his insatiable appetite for beer and hot dogs.

Can't wait for the press conference about this earthshaking sale by Harry Frazee. That is what happens when show business types own major league franchises. It looks like the end of the deadball is in sight if Ruth plays everyday for the Yankees.

Plus I hear there's going to be some fallout on last year's World Series, something about player's trying to lose on purpose.

Don't worry, the White Sox will all be back and they'll continue to have a great team for years to come. And don't forget those Cubs, as well. It's shaping up to be a terrific century for Chicago baseball. Philadelphia is also atop the baseball world with an impressive decade of performance by the Athletics. Chicago, Philly, and Boston, nothing but good things ahead!

Hey, at least Frazee didn't sell Herb Pennock, Everett Scott, Carl Mays, Sam Jones, Mike McNally, Wally Schang or Waite Hoyt to those dagnabbed knickerbockers!

I ran into Chris Berman at a Hall of Fame induction. I asked him why he never said "Julio FrancoAmerican " when he went deep. He didn't find it funny. I think it is though.
