Stop Picking on Barry Bonds

On August 7th, 2007, Barry Bonds made history, by hitting his 756th home run against the Nationals. I'm sure a lot of fans were happy that a 30+ record was broken, while others think that he did not. No one does NOT care; you're either a hater while you just say the 8/7/2007 is the worst day of your life, or you decide to be a real sports fan and congratulate Bonds.
Why should you not congratulate Bonds? Why? Because he's on steroids and cheating? Sorry, but I need something better than that in order for you to convince me about that. Firstly, it's a frickin' record that hasn't been broken for 33 years. Secondly, even if he did cheat, it won't be long until A-Rod breaks the record most probably less than a decade from now. There's all this controversy and BS about the whole situation.
Barry Bonds has been playing for years, and yes, I admit it, I'm not the biggest Barry Bonds fan, but we should learn to appreciate what he has done as a ballplayer. Let's look at his other feats besides anything that has to deal with home runs:
- 1st All time leader in career walks
- 1st All time leader in intentional walks
- 2nd All time leader in extra base hits
- 3rd All time in runs scored
- 4th All time in total bases
- 5th All time in RBIs
- 6th All time in career SLG
- 6th All time in career OBP
- Most Walks in a single season
- Highest OBP in a single season
- Highest SLG in a singe season
- The only baseball player in the 500-500 club and the 400-400 club
- 7 MVP Awards
- 98 hits away from getting 3000 hits
- 14 Time All Star
- 8 Time Gold Glove Award Winner
- 12 Time Silver Slugger Award Winner
- Tied the NL record for the most consecutive plate appearances getting on base
- 1 of 2 players to ever have 2 season of a .800+ SLG
- Oldest player to win a batting title (.370 AVG)
- Highest OPS record in a single season
- First player, and only player, to have more times on base than at bats in a season
Is there anything else he CAN accomplish, besides get 3000 hits or 800 home runs? He's basically done everything a baseball player can do. It is not official that Bonds took steroids, but a lot of evidence goes against him. Let's say he didn't take steroids. Do you think he would have not been in the 500 home run club? He hit 25 home runs during his second year of playing in the MLB. If he played 19 more seasons after that, Bonds would've been in the 500 home run club just like that.
I just hope that when people think of Barry Bonds now that he broke the record, people won't just say "He cheated his way to becoming first in the all time home run list." Just remember, IF, I repeat, IF he gets caught taking steroids, people will say that he cheated his way to doing most of those other things that I mentioned, not just home runs.
