Stinky Cubs - Tigers Launch 8 Out...Rogers gets his 200th

11
Vote

"It doesn't matter if I'm coming back or had been pitching all year, I basically (stunk) today," Mark Prior said. "It's not a good one. But I've got to move on."

The eight homers tied a Detroit Tigers record set June 20, 2000, at Toronto; oh yeah don't forget it matched up with the season high by a Cubs opponent. Atlanta hit eight home runs against Chicago on May 28 (brutal). Has the All- Star Home Run Derby started early, well, the Cubs are making it that way losing their 6th game in a row putting them a whopper of 16 games back.

Prior has had a history of pitching well when coming back from a vacation on the DL, but yesterdays game was not one of those. Prior opened last season on the DL with right elbow inflammation and returned there after being hit in the elbow by a line drive by Colorado's Brad Hawpe on May 27. He pitched six scoreless innings in an 8-3 victory over San Diego in his first start, and retired 18 of 19 batters in six innings and beat the White Sox on June 26.

Ever since Lee went out I havn't seen much of any chance for the Chicago Cubs. Personally I have been to some games and the fans are getting fed up. I can't blame them myself, it's rediculous. Kerry Wood, who started the season on the DL while due to surgury, began the season on the disabled list and returned there on June 9. He might pitch next weekend at Minnesota, but we'll see what happens (as we well know...anything).

I wonder which pitcher: Kerry Woods or Mark Prior, will the Cubs give up on first. My prediction: Prior.

Wood will be the first to go... he's got a club option for 07' for 13Mil that the Cubs will probably buy out...

I think the Cubs fans need to do two things to get over their struggles:

1: Stop saying "when Prior and Wood come back..." They're not coming back, guys. Not long enough to actually help, anyway. They're in the same category as A.J. Burnett. They'll only come back long enough to remind you of how good they might be if they weren't so unhealthy.

2: Stop blaming the curse. It's not to say I don't believe in sports curses, but it's not always the curse that holds this team back. Many times, your expectations are way too high. Like last year, when everyone said the Cubs would play small ball with Jerry Hairston at the top of the lineup, and that Dempster was going to turn into a star closer. That was silly, and it led to artifically high expectations. Same thing this season. Knowing that Wood and Prior will miss significant time, their rotation stinks, their bullpen stinks, and their lineup relies too much on getting back around to Derrek Lee. Stop blaming the curse.

1) Can I say "If they come back . . . "?

2)Agreed. Thank you for at least acknowledging it's presence. As for Dempster, he did pitch very well last year, most likely above his head, which lead to high expectations. And I will admit, I expected better things with Pierre at the top of the order, but he just flat out sucks. I hope they can trade him and at least get something, like 5 bucks and a happy meal.

You make it five bucks and a case of Mountain Dew, and I'll take you up on it. He can clean my bathroom while I'm at school.

Nothing will help the Cubs at this point. Come on. This season is over, let's start planning for the post-Dusty era.

Problems needed for focus...I think Cubs should:

1. New manager
2. Screw the curse and worry about playing baseball
3. New manager(Did I mention that)
4. Pitchers..need I say more?

As far as the curse goes...it's bar talk as far as I have ever seen. It's more of a stupid PR ploy to take the heat off the real fact. PLAYING ABILITY

Haha...well, thanks. I appreciate that, but it wasn't pluses I was looking for. I don't care that much about that. I just like to know why someone is giving me a minus. I don't see what's disagreeable about those statements.
