Stiles Tours the Sports Zodiac: Leo

by user Manny Stiles

Continuing the tour of the zodiac to see which astrological sign is represented by the best athletes.

We've already done Cancer so now it's time for Leo.

Leo: "the fifth sign of the zodiac, symbolized by a lion. Astrologers believe that people whose birthdays fall from July 23 to August 22 are born under the sun sign of Leo. The sun rules Leo, which is a fire sign.

Astrologers believe that Leos have regal, self-centered, generous, and warm-hearted natures. Leos are said to be protective of people close to them, especially children and those who are weak. They also have a strong need to be the center of attention, and may be surprisingly sensitive. Astrologers think that Leos tend to be inordinately fond of praise and can be swayed by flattery. They consider Leos to be creative and dramatic. Leos also have strong organizational skills and make natural leaders."

Here is a list of Leo athletes, your job is to pick the best 5 to represent the sign in a battle of Zodiac athletes:

Pee Wee Reese, Don Drysdale, Barry Bonds, Karl Malone, Walter Payton, Dorothy Hamill, Leo Durocher, Peggy Fleming, Alex Rodriguez, Casey Stengel, Bud Selig, Curt Gowdy, Evonne Goolagong, Tom Brady, Mary Decker, Jeff Gordon, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Esther Williams, Ken Norton Sr, Brett Hull, Deion Sanders, Riddick Bowe, Hulk Hogan, Pete Sampras, Ben Hogan, Magic Johnson, Gene Upshaw, Frank Gifford, Roberto Clemente, Willie Shoemaker, Don King, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Parcells.

Wow that's quite a list...

Pick your 'starting five' and we'll move to Virgo next to determine once and for all, which is the most athletic zodiac sign!!!

Between Bonds and Malone there's a lot of strange physique goings on amongst the 40 year olds of this list.

ALL of the zodiac lists are going to be weirdly strange in one manner or another... it's in the nature of the signs.

Explains A-Rod pretty well, huh: 'protective of...children' - he saved the kid from being hit by a car in boston, ctr of attn, sensitive, overly dramatic.

Top 5 what? Athletes or personalities? I wouldn't consider Don King or the Tuna athlestes. But they would make my top 5 personalities from the choices above. Along with Leo Durocher, Deion Sanders and A-Rod.

I don't know that I've ever seen self-centered and generous next to each other in the same sentence. That confuses me.

sure... Leos like to give generously to others so they can receive the credit... and Leos won't let credit slide by them, either. Leos often consider themselves 'right', even when every piece of evidence resides in the contrary, that might cement their 'rightness'. Kings of every dominion they enter (at least to themselves), they can be unstoppable forces OR arrogant boneheads, depending on their level of self-awareness.

Not really, they're just easy to disect. Look at the list above...these people HAD to dominate every contest, every event and every room they walked into. Just think of a lion (King of the Jungle) Leos ARE lions. (But for most, only on the inside) Look at that list; pretty dominant and authoratative people, LOTS of SERIOUS champions... coincidence you say? (take a look at the rest of the famous Leos out there sometime) My Dad is a Leo (and I have a Leo moon). I think Leo people are the easiest sign to pick out of a crowd.

well then as evidence shows, leo's seem to be genetically pre-desposed to dominate their respective sports!

but will they be better than Libras, Capricorns, Aquarians or Tauruses? I kinda figured Leos would have good representation, but wait til you see the Aquarians (#23,

I'll go with Ben Hogan, Roberto Clemente, Don Drysdale, Wilt the Stilt, and A-Rod just in case I ever need a guy who can't make a throw from third base to first.
