The Dallas Stars and Stu Barnes agreed to a one year deal worth $900,000, keeping the fan favorite from leaving the Metroplex, as he was a free agent if he hadn't signed today.
One of the most dependable and hard working players for the Stars in recent memory, Barnes played in all 82 games this past season and was tied for the team lead for points scored during the 2007 playoffs vs. Vancouver.
Thus, this deal was a positive as Barnes has been a positive influence throughout his tenure as a Dallas Star. Yet, the Stars ended up saving money on the cap with today's signing.
In 06-07, Barnes made $1.14 million meaning that the current deal will save the Stars $214,000 on the cap.
Thus, this contract will actually help the Stars save money that can be used to sign other forwards that could help out their offensive production, which has suffered in recent years.
