Steve Owen (Stephen Joseph Owen) was born on April 21, 1898 in Cleo Springs, Oklahoma. After going to high school at Enid (OK), Owen attended Phillips Community College. Owen made his professional debut in the NFL in 1924 with the Kansas City Blues. He played for the New York Giants, Kansas City Cowboys and Kansas City Blues over the course of his 9 year career.
