Steve Newell (Stephen Eugene Newell) was born on December 27, 1944 in Springfield, Illinois. After going to high school at Culver City (CA), Newell attended California State University, Long Beach. Newell made his professional debut in the AFL in 1967 with the San Diego Chargers. He played for the San Diego Chargers for his entire 1 year career.
