Born on January 2, 1886 in Cherokee, Iowa, Steve Melter (Stephen Blasius Melter) played for the St. Louis Cardinals for his entire 1 year career. Melter broke into the bigs on June 27, 1909 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.50 ERA in 64.1 innings pitched in 1909, his rookie year.
