Born on January 15, 1920 in Hamtramck, Michigan, Steve Gromek (Stephen Joseph Gromek) played for the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 17 year career. Gromek broke into the bigs on August 18, 1941 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 2.56 ERA in 203.2 innings pitched in 1944, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Steve Gromek's best season was 1945, when he posted a 2.55 ERA, won 19 games and struck out 101 batters.
