Steve Furness (Stephen Robert Furness) was born on December 5, 1950 in Providence, Rhode Island. After going to high school at Bishop Hendricken (Warwick, RI), Furness attended the University of Rhode Island. Furness made his professional debut in the NFL in 1972 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions over the course of his 10 year career.
Most people believe that 1976 was Steve Furness's best year, as he recovered 3 opponents fumbles.
