Steroids Are Not the Worst Problem For Baseball

Hi Fans,
Steroids are not MLB's biggest problem.
It's the team owners that keep raising the salaries for players, who when I was a kid, would have been sent down to AAA or maybe even AA. Today's papers report Carlos Silva and the Mariners did a four year $48 million dollar deal. He was 13-14 & a 4.19 ERA for the Twins last season. The Tigers quickly inked their new pitcher, Dontrelle Willis to a 3 year $21.5 million contract. His last year's stats were 10-15 w/ a 5.17 ERA! How can MLB owners keep paying these incredible salaries for what are mediocre pitching statistics? The answer is raising ticket prices 20 percent as many MLB teams have announced for 2008. Can you imagine what Bob Gibson or Sandy Koufax would have earned in today's market? The owners have so much money coming in via TV and their very strong Internet component that they can lavish these HUGH amounts of money on mediocre players. Yes, they're Major Leaguers, but to reinforce average or below average stats with these tremendous amounts of money means the only people who lose in this arrangement is you and me - the baseball fans who have to pay $100 for a field box seat and $10 bucks for a warm flat beer. If you have answer to this inane pay structure, please let me know.
Merry Christmas.
