The biggest controversy in Major League Baseball or even sports is performance enhancing drugs and it's something that's been talk about every year because someone new gets caught using it. This has been a problem in sports for a while and there's no way we as fans can stop other athletes from using it.
After racism, performance enhancing drugs have been the biggest problem in sports and it's going to take a lot to stop this. It's sad when you see a athlete using performance enhancing drugs, because they are healthier without them. When you become an athlete your job is to stay as healthy as you can, and taking steroids or other banned substance is stopping them from reaching their goals. When athletes use performance enhancing drugs it makes them feel like they're unstoppable, but they are really being disrespectful to there sport, to other athletes, and to those who ever played a role for them to get to where they are now.
When athletes break the rules by using performance enhancing drugs, it means they are not true athletes -- and we have a lot of them in sports today. It's great when you're willing to do what ever is possible to become the best, but performance enhancing drugs is not the answer. Working out and practicing to become the best makes you a real athlete and you are showing that you love and respect sports to much to take performance enhancing drugs. If an athlete uses performance enhancing drugs then that shows he has no love for his job or family, because when he uses performance enhancing drugs it affects his children and family is much is it does themselves.
There have been rumors of athletes using performance enhancing drugs, but it's wrong for us as fans to hold that against them from receiving awards including entrance into the Hall of Fame. In this country you are innocent until proven other wise, and if nobody has proven that an athlete has use a banned substance then you shouldn't hold that against them. It's OK for someone to voice there opinion and thoughts, but to hold it against someone in wrong.
Some say performance enhancing drugs is used heavy in the Minor Leagues, and that's a problem as well. Young baseball players are putting their lives on the line at an early age by taking performance enhancing drugs. This is a bad road to go down. It's important for these Minor League athletes to know that it doesn't make since to use performance enhancing drugs in the Minor League just to get into the Major Leagues, because they are not showing there real talent to the scouts and it's just a big lie to everyone. In order to be a true baseball player you have to play off your natural talent that the most high god has given you; don't use steroids or other banned substance because your just wasting every ones time.
Using performance enhancing drugs is the worst thing athletes can do nowadays, because they are throwing away all the hard work they put in at an early age to become successful. It's a disrespect to everyone, and "cheater" is the word that best describe the athletes that use it. The sports world is a better place without these steroids users.
What makes everything sad it that athletes lie when they test positive for a banned substance or they use the same excuse: "I took it without knowing". It's time for this athletes to stand up and take responsibility for there own actions; if they are strong enough to tackle down 250 pound men, or steal bases and hit balls out the park, then they should be strong enough to admit when they are wrong. Everyone understands people make mistakes and it's all about learning from them, but nobody is going to respect you if you don't tell the truth and show respect.
In this day and age we as fans don't treat athletes with the same respect we do others. San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman tested positive for a banned substance and nobody criticized him, but San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Bonds never tested positive for a banned substance. Nevertheless, people won't show him respect because it's rumor that he did use performance enhancing drugs. This is a problem, because if were not going to criticize Shawne Merriman then we shouldn't criticize Barry Bonds as well. It's disrespectful to treat someone different when we don't even know the true story. We have to treat people the same, because that's how we want to be treated as well. The MLB is the league that deals with this problem more then anyone else, and the MLB is not showing like they want to stop this from destroying the sport. Last season Barry Bonds tested positive for amphetamines, but the worst thing about this is nobody reported this to the San Francisco Giants. Why would they want to keep this from the Giants front office? That shows there not willing to catch who ever is taking performance enhancing drugs, and that's sad. This is an example of the MLB not being tough enough on players that use performance enhancing drugs. Major League Baseball should be disappointed for there actions.
