Former MCC Fighter Jeremy Stephens has commented for the first time to the Iowa MMA Report, since his victory over Diego Saraiva at UFC 76: Knockout, in Anaheim, Calif. Stephens was satisfied with how his night went.
"Saturday night went well, it went my way," Stephens said.
Even though the fight went to a decision, Stephens is still happy with the outcome, considering how tough Saraiva was during the fight.
"I was looking to finish him, but he was a little bit more tougher than I thought he was," Stephens said. "I'll take it for what it is, which is a victory, I'm very happy with what I got so I'm not complaining."
When it came to getting caught in the triangle choke hold in round one, Stephens did what he could to get Saraiva off of him, that included slamming him not once, but twice.
"He caught me with it real quick, so I didn't know what to do," Stephens said. "Usually when you go for that, you try to tuck your arm under the leg, and I had my right arm shortened up so that he couldn't try to block me from slamming him, so I just elevated him up and slammed him down twice and it loosened him up."
As it stands, Stephens has one fight left on his UFC contract. Another win in the octagon would certainly put him in the top heavy Lightweight division.
"Every fight just gets tougher and tougher in my career," Stephens said. "So as long as I keep winning, hopefully there will be more to come in the UFC and I can establish myself as being one of the top contenders."
Stephens has not been medically suspended and is already back to training. He said that he ran on Monday and got back to training on Tuesday.
As for whether or not he'll fight in Iowa, he's focusing on his UFC career. So fighting in Iowa is out of the question for now.
