Thursday Night at GM Place, the Dallas Stars defeated the Vancouver Canucks, winning Game 5 of their WCQF series, 1-0 in OT. With the win, the Stars forced game six at the American Airlines Center, closing the gap in the series to 3-2 over the Canucks.

After a scoreless regulation, the game went into overtime. In overtime, the Canucks committed a delay of game, too many men on the ice penalty and the Stars scored on that extra man advantage, as Stars captain Brenden Morrow redirected a Sergei Zubov slapshot into the back of the Canucks net. With the goal, the Stars won the game and brought the series back to Dallas for game six on Saturday Night.

Notes:

Finally, an OT Winner:

-Brenden Morrow's OT Winner was a rarity for a Stars that had problems in recent memory in the extra session after regulation.

Before Morrow scored the game winner, the last OT Game Winner was Steve Ott during Game 3 of the 2004 Western Conference Quarterfinals versus the Colorado Avalanche.

For Marty Turco, it was only his second OT Victory of his career and the first OT victory of this series, having lost two OT games in the 1st and 3rd games of the current series.

For the Stars to go out and win the game, extending the series, they did something that hasn';t been done in the last three playoff series, look to break previous playoff failures.

Morrow, The Right Captain:

Remember when those in the media (including your competitors) said the Doug Armstrong was wrong by ripping the " C " of Modano and giving it to Morrow.

Tonight's Game 5 GWG in OT is proof that Morrow should be the captain.    Here's why:    -He scores the goal that helps extend this series.  -He goes to the front of the net, something that few players for this team have done this postseason.  -He did something other players seem to avoid, playing and performing under pressure  -He also showed some fortitude by recovering from a gruesome wrist injury. If he would have taken his time and not worked hard, Morrow might not be able to score the GWG in tonight's game.    In my opinion, Morrow was right guy at the beginning of the season and he is the right guy now.    Now, if we can get some other Stars players to snap some scoreless streaks, that would help in their quest to complete a miracle comeback.   Turco makes history again:   With the 1-0 victory in Game 6, Marty Turco recorded his second playoff career shutout. Considering that Turco was 8-14 in the playoffs heading into this series and posted GAA's of over three in the last series with Colorado, this recent play shows improved play and should take away any potential for any scapegoating if the Stars lose this first round series.   If Turco had more offensive support from his teammates, this series might look ridiculously different.   Think about this: The Stars have scored 3 goals in their last three games, including scoring only one in Game six.   With offensive production like that, it's amazing that the Stars are still alive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.   Game 6 On Saturday Night:   -Game 2 of a Three Game Miracle Comeback occurs on Saturday Night. If the Stars take care of business, they can force a decisive Game 7 in Vancouver on Monday Night.   The one thing that still bothers me after winning Game 5 is I hope the Stars win on Saturday Night.   I would hate for the fans of the Stars to see their team end their postseason for the second straight time at home, as it happened versus Colorado in Game 5 of the 2006 Western Conference Quarterfinals.   I know the fans will be there, but I hope the Stars offense will be there too.....   JG
