Stars Skate Past Sharks 1-0

by user UNT66

Monday night at American Airlines Center, the Dallas Stars defeated the San Jose Sharks 1-0. Mike Modano scored the only goal of the game seven minutes into the contest and Marty Turco made 25 saves, earning his 2nd Shutout of the Season.

With the win, the Stars have won five straight at American Airlines Center and are 10-2 at the AAC this season.

Also, the Stars pulled even with the Sharks with a win a piece in the season series, with 6 more games left. Thus, these Stanley Cup Contenders will have more contest to separate themselves from each other and the rest of the division.

Notes:

Injury Woes Continue:

Here is the latest list of players that were out before the game:

Steve Ott, Brenden Morrow, Darryl Sydor, Trevor Daley, Eric Lindros and Antti Miettinen were out, due to various injuries. To make up for these rosters omissions, Players from the Iowa, the Stars AHL affiliate have been called up. The latest recall is Joel Lundqvist, an irritating pest that loves to rile the opposition, who drew the penalty that resulted in a power play which Mike Modano capitalized on for the only goal of the game.

Then, Mike Modano went down with an injury to his leg, when he clacked skates with a Sharks defender in the 2nd period of Monday's game.

Thus, seven players are out, counting for 12.15 million dollars of their payroll and more players might be coming up from Iowa.......

The scary part is that the team is playing many games in a short period of time, not allowing for any recovery time. As a result, this team could drop some spots in the standings in the near future.

Stockholm South?

For the last few years, the Dallas Stars have been a home for NHL Players from Finland. Infact, the fans have dubbed Dallas "Helsinki South" with Lehtinen, Miettinen, Jokinen, Hagman on the current roster and Niko Kapanen and Janne Niinimaa having played on the team last season.

Yet, in Monday's game, The Stars Played Four Swedes (Grossman, Eriksson, Lundqvist, Tjarnqvist) and Three Finnish Players (Hagman, Jokinen, and Lehtinen) on the active roster.

Due to a roster shakeup with the injury bug running rampant, Sweden made strides on their Scandinavian counterparts on the Stars roster.

Special Teams:

Stars win the Special Teams Battle 1-0, winning the game as Mike Modano helped the Stars score a Power Play Goal in their 3rd straight home game.

As this team continue to struggle with injuries, the power play must help this team out or else a long losing streak could be in the works.....

Ugly Games This Season:

Monday Night's 1-0 Victory was the 3rd 1-0 win of the season for the Stars. For this team, they seem to be able to hold onto leads when they need to.

While this game may not be entertaining, the task of posting two points was accomplished on Monday. Unfortunately, this trend may continue as the roster continues to change into Iowa South.....
