Stars Defeat Coyotes In OT 5-4

Sunday Night at the American Airlines Center, the Dallas Stars defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 5-4. With the win, the Stars moved up to a 5th place tie in the Western Conference Standings and ran their current winning streak to 4 games.

In this back and forth contest where momentum shifted frequently, Dallas finally was able to win the game in Overtime, converting on a power play chance, as Mike Ribeiro scored his second goal of the night, pounding home a rebound into the Coyotes net, ending the game and giving the team another win.

In regulation, Phoenix was able to keep pace with the Stars all night and forced Stars Head Coach Dave Tippett to pull his starter, Mike Smith in favor of Marty Turco.

For the Stars, they were able to score two goals after the Coyotes marked the scoresheet initially. Yet, Dallas still needed a Sergei Zubov Power Play Goal late in the third period to send the game to overtime.

Once in overtime, Dallas scored after the Coyotes committed a dumb penalty and made sure that that they sent a message, knowing that these teams would face each other again next Tuesday at the AAC.

Notes:

Robidas Update: After tests in Dallas, it seems that Stephane Robidas will at least be out of the active lineup for a week before more tests can be conducted to determine if he can play again.

Also, the buzz around the league is that Jordin Tootoo will receive at the most 6 games for his suckerpunch of Robidas.

If this is the case, then the NHL needs to find others that can truly give out punishments for the crime that was committed.

Morrow's Back:

After Brenden Morrow spended 33 games out of the lineup, the Stars Captain returned Saturday Night in Nashville and then scored his first goal in the second game back in the lineup.

For the Stars, this is a positive sign as Morrow's combination of grit and skill will be needed in the playoffs when the creative and beautiful goals are replaced with hard working, grind it out goals as defenses clamp down on winger and checking is put at a premium.

Shane Doan is a pest:

Here's what Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes did on the ice on Sunday Night:

-Was a pest on the ice

-Failed to score on a penalty shot, but drew a penalty that led to his 3rd period goal that nearly won the game for the Coyotes

-Took a dumb penalty that led to the Stars game tying Power Play Goal from Sergei Zubov

For the bad that Doan created on the ice, he certainly made his presence felt. I just wish that the Stars could have acquired him as well as Ladislav Nagy before the trade deadline.....

Nagy Shows Up:

Speaking of Ladislav Nagy, he recorded two assists in his first game against his former team on Sunday Night. Nagy, who is playing with an extended face shield in order to protect that right eye that was injured versus the Flyers, has been a streaky player with the Stars.

When he's hot or on a point streak, he's effective.

When he's cold, he seems to be floating out there.

Hopefully, he can create more plays for the Stars offense once his eye heals completely and that enlarged face shield can come of his helmet.

Road Trip:

-The Stars play their next three games away from the AAC, playing all three inside the Pacific Division against the Kings, Ducks and Coyotes. If the Stars want to call this trip a success, a minimum of 4 points is required in order to keep pace with Minnesota and San Jose in the Conference Standings.
