Spurrier and Company Getting Raises: But Why?

Yesterday, it was announced that Steve Spurrier and seven of his eight returning assistant coaches at the University of South Carolina will be receiving new contracts with higher salaries. Recruiting coordinator David Reaves also got a twenty-five percent raise.
For me, it is hard to figure out why they are all getting raises. What has Spurrier and his assistants done so far as to deserve a raise in salary. So far, Spurrier has just taken the Gamecocks to subpar bowl games such as the Independence Bowl.
I am not saying that he is a poor coach or anything. Look at his track record, multiple SEC Championships and a National Title at Florida. I think he has a good chance of turning South Carolina into a consistant challenger for the SEC crown. However, he really hasn't done anything at South Carolina to prove to me that he and his assistants are worthy of a raise.
However, I understand why he was given an extension. In the modern era of College Football everything is driven by money. The BCS is in place because of money. Notre Dame does not belong to a conference because of the money. It is all because of the money. Universities pay large sums of money to hire coaches away from other school.
So Spurrier gets a raise because the prices of head coaches and College Football related positions are increasing. The coach at one school gets his salary doubled so South Carolina has to give their coaches a raise.
So Spurrier doesn't really get a raise because he and his coaches deserve it. He gets a raise because many of the other coaches and schools are just getting even more money. You gotta love College Football.
