On the verge of witnessing one of the most hollowed records in all of sports fall as Barry Bonds currently stands with 751 home runs, four behind Aaron, got me to thinking. I know, that’s a very dangerous thought indeed! No matter what anybody feels towards this rooting for Barry Bonds to become the home run champion, eventually it’s going to happen. Yeah, Ruth may have done it on beer and hot dogs…Hammerin Hank did it with class and dignity. And now Barry will have done it with needles & syringes…Or is that the Cream & the Clear. Look, Barry can say until he’s blue in the face that he’s never dabbled in the “performance enhancing” industry, but we know better…It’s all in the hat size my man! All in the hat size…Um, excuse me Barry, what’s your reason behind that? Your Viagra miss fire? In fact it doesn’t have to even be that scientific…All that’s needed is a collection of Balco Barry’s baseball cards over the years for proof. For photos, well, they never lie!
Nevertheless some time in this year’s season half one of sports most cherished records will be surpassed…Whether it has an asterisk by it or not is in the eyes of the beholder! Everyone of us has heard the slogan, “Records were made to be broken” and as sports enthusiasts we understand the importance of this. Remember where we were and what we were doing as an all-time record falls…And thus will be the case again sometime this summer.
Sports are a plethora of records…For they come on so many different scales. The one that Bonds is about to surpass is again one of sports most cherished records. Thus begs the question, since Major League Baseball is on the verge of having a new All-Time Home Run king , what are some of the other treasured records in sports? The records in which we think are so unattainable and will never be broken…Then again, we had this same thought regarding Hammerin Hank’s 755! We thought it would last forever too!
In no sequential number order…Why? Again, the beauty lies within the beholder! Here’s some of sports greatest records that seem perhaps they might stand the test of time. Now if only needles & syringes don’t start poking at them!
