Sport or No Sport: Chess

Fourth in a Series, but the first since mid-summer!
Is Chess a sport or not? That is a question to ponder these last few days before Christmas 2006.
For the sport argument, chess requires skills. One needs to have a strategy, a game plan for the chess match. This game plan needs to be adjusted as the chess match progesses. There is also usually a time limit for moves to be made. And of course, there is now talk of even having a "fantasy chess" team among fans. Finally, there is going to be clear conclusion, be it a win, lose, or draw. All of these support the argument that chess is a sport.
For the non-sport argument, chess requires almost no physical movement. Yes, one needs to move a chess piece, which weighs X ounces, a inch or two on the chess board. Beyond that, no physical movement is needed to play. Hence, the game of chess is not a sport.
With these arguments for and against presented, it is my opinion that Chess is a SPORT! The necessary mental thinking and strategy used to be successful clearly support chess as a sport. It is true that there is little physical activity required to play chess. However, the same can be said for many other sports, most notably of which is auto racing.
Therefore, chess should be considered a sport. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Whatever you think, write your thoughts down below, in the comments section.
