Spike Jones (John Amos Jones) was born on July 9, 1947 in Louisville, Georgia. After going to high school at Academy (Louisville, GA), Jones attended Middle Georgia Junior College and the University of Georgia. Jones made his professional debut in the NFL in 1970 with the Houston Oilers. He played for the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Oilers over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that 1977 was Spike Jones's best year, as he dropped 22 punts inside the 20.
