Born on September 15, 1893 in Wawawai, Washington, Speed Martin (Elwood Good Martin) played for the St. Louis Browns and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 6 year career. Martin broke into the bigs on July 5, 1917 with the St. Louis Browns, and put up a 1.84 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched in 1918, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Speed Martin's best season was 1919, when he posted a 2.47 ERA and struck out 54 batters.
