Born on October 2, 1920 in Naugatuck, Connecticut, Spec Shea (Francis Joseph Shea) played for the New York Yankees and Washington Senators over the course of his 8 year career. Shea broke into the bigs on April 19, 1947 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 3.07 ERA in 178.2 innings pitched in 1947, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Spec Shea's best season was 1947, when he posted a 3.07 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 89 batters.
