Spec Sanders (Orban Eugene Sanders) was born on January 26, 1918 in Temple, Oklahoma. After going to high school at Temple (OK), Sanders attended Cameron University and the University of Texas. Sanders made his professional debut in the AAFC in 1946 with the New York Yankees. He played in the AAFC for 3 years, playing for the New York Yankees the entire time. Sanders also played in the NFL for 1 year, playing for the New York Yanks the entire time.

Most people believe that 1947 was Spec Sanders's best year, as he tossed 14 TDs, ran for 1432 yards, ran in 18 TDs, ran for an average of 6.2 yards per carry, picked off 3 passes, had 593 kick return yards, ran back a kickoff for a touchdown and had a 42.1 yard punt average.
