Sox Juggle Rotation For Yankees

10
Vote

Following last night's victory, the Boston Red Sox announced they would take advantage of their off day to juggle the rotation in preparation for the upcoming series in Yankee Stadium, their first visit to the Bronx this season.
As it stands now, Josh Beckett will start the series (you might recall him pitching a pretty good game in Yankee Stadium a couple years ago), Curt Schilling will toss game two, and Tim Wakefield, who's had great success against New York, will finish things up on Thursday.

Beckett is in a major funk right now, Schilling will pitch well (as usual) and Wakefield has had good, but not great, success (see: Game 7, 2003 or Boone, Aaron). Prediction: Yankees take 2 of 3 with Schilling getting the lone win.

Yeeeah, why don't we look at the 2003 series against the Yankees. Wakefield won his two starts against them and had a 2.57 ERA. You can't be serious about basing your analysis on 1 pitch. In the last 3 years he's had a 3.59 ERA in 13 starts against New York. Not bad for facing one of the best offenses in baseball.

Well, it's always good to make thoughts on pitchers based on two games (Beckett) and one (Wakefield). I suppose you're right. Since we're bringing up games from a couple years ago, maybe we ought to recollect a certain World Series? I seem to recall....somebody...winning a clinching game....somewhere. Who was that again? Get real. Beckett's had a tough couple outings, but he'll bounce back. Schilling (see Game 7, 2004) thrives under pressure. These are the best three guys to throw up there, and the Yankees staff is shaky right now. Good luck, guys. Seriously.
