Someone Please Designate Scott Schoeneweis for Assignment

(From MetsLifer.com) Q. What do tongue depressors, cold pasta and Scott Schoeneweis have in common?

A. They all make me gag.

Do you just cringe during a close game when you hear Gary Cohen say that Willie Randolph is going to the bullpen to bring in Scott Schoeneweis? Does he not see what everyone else sees?

Look at his stats this year: IP = 27.2 Hits = 30 K = 13 BB = 20 ERA = 5.86

This is a guy with a career ERA of over 5. I know we're desperate for bullpen help and we don't have a long reliever, but right now anybody is better than Schoeneweis. Where's Chad Bradford and Darren Oliver when you need them?

A relief pitcher with more walks than strikeouts is useless. I get a queasy feeling just seeing Schoeneweis warming up in the bullpen. You get a feeling that this is going to end badly when Schoeneweis walks in from the bullpen....besides if he is assigned I won't have to worry about ever spelling his name right again.

Well chad bradford is with the Os...0-4 with a 3.38 ERA...34 hits, 6 walks, 17 Ks and a 1.36 WHIP... Darren Oliver is barely in the majors with a 0-0 record (active with the angels) a 6.55 era...27 hits, 13 walks, 17 Ks and a 1.82 WHIP...

Bradford is in a park that is much nicer to hitters than Shea, and Mazzone's mojo seems to only work in ATL, whereas Peterson is the only pitching coach Bradford has done well for (in Oakland and NY).

Perhaps we can trade to get him back?

Schoeneweis should be taken out back and shot.

Really...in 2007, according to ESPN's Park Factor Shea is more of a hitter's park than Camden Yards...admittedly, there's more homers in Camden yards than shea (1.26 - 1.075)...but Camden is 5th overall to shea's 9th... The o's current starters feature 2 guys with an ERA below 3.6 (Bedard & Guthrie) and 1 with an ERA below 3 (Burres)...it's not the best staff...but a pretty good one...young too...although danny cabrera doesn't help

Yeah I realized that you weren't really saying he was doing poorly after I hit submit. Park factors are league relative also, and remember NL to AL switch accounts for .5-1.0 of ERA. So I'd love to have Chad back. Probably the worst move Minaya has made (or in this case, not made).

Wait, I'm confused...I agree park factors are effected by league (meaning the NL would have fewer runs than the AL), but Shea has more runs than Camden...which would mean, if Shea were in the AL it would be even higher the Oriole Park...right?

With the state of relief pitching as it is, having Schoeneweis is not that bad. You could always have Jose Mesa coming in from the pen!

and troy Percival signed with the cards...what person in Phillies management was like "y'know, I think we'd prefer Jose Mesa over Troy Percival..." Honestly, they're both risky...but screw it, you might have something special this year in percival...
