Solly Hemus (Solomon Joseph Hemus) was born on April 17, 1923 in Phoenix, Arizona. He made his Major League debut on April 27, 1949 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1951, his rookie year, he hit .281 with 2 home runs and 32 RBI. Hemus played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that Solly Hemus's best season was 1953, when he hit for a .279 average and knocked in 61 runs.
