Soccer Math

If the price of a soccer player reflects its value and contribution to the team, then I don't (and won't ever) get this:

Thierry Henry : Sold from Arsenal to Barcelona for 16 million pounds.

Darren Bent : Sold from Charlton Athletic to Tottenham Hotspur for 16.5 million pounds.

Anyone who can explain to me why Bent is 500,000 quid more expensive than Henry deserves an OBE.

An Overpriced Buying Error, that is.

Apparently because Arsenal couldn't even get the market value for a player like Henry. That makes me feel even worse about his transfer.

One reason for the overpriced transfer of Bent is that his youth club, Ipswich, recieves 20% of the transfer fee. Still, those numbers just do not look right. At the end of the day though, soccer still comes down to 90 minutes of grit and the only numbers that matter are on the scoreboard and on the table.

you have to know that sometimes a player is not onmly sold to another team but if the team that the plater was sold to wins usually the other teambenefits from that...but your right arsenal had problems in finding a rewasonalbe amount and it is kinda unfare but after i had watched a couple of games which arsenal was playing it does sound reasonable....

well, Thierry Henry is a better player however he reached to a certain point of his life where he's abit to old to play. Darren Bent is a younger player and is fully motivated and will do his very best. Henry hasn't played good for awhile, and barcelona doesn't need him at all. Lets see if henry gets his act togther.
