So much sport on just one day!

In one of the most interesting mixes of sport ever held on one day/weekend, here is the gargantuan of sporting activity held that British audiences will be tuning into this weekend:
- Cricket - Game 7 of 7 in a ODI series between England and India at Lord's. England were 3-1 up, and had a real chance to win Game 6 today, and secure the series. But India prevailed at the last.
- "Soccer" - England play Israel at 5pm on Saturday afternoon.
- Rugby - England play United States at 5pm on Saturday afternoon.
- Golf - The Walker Cup, the amateur version of the Ryder Cup, Europe v USA.
- Formula One - The Italian Grand Prix, qualifying on Saturday, and the race on Sunday.
- Speedway - The Polish Grand Prix at 6pm on Saturday evening.
Internationally, in sports Britain take small interest in:
- Tennis - US Open Semis & Final
- Eurobasket 2009 - Great Britain v Belarus - the winner advances to the next stage of qualifying.
Also going on:
- Elite League Hockey (Ice)
- Hockey (Field) League
- BBL (British Basketball League)
The problem this week, is the scheduling for the TV channels. On Saturday, the BBC deliberately scheduled the football to compete with the rugby, in order to reduce ratings. Disgraceful, in my opinion. I'll be watching the rugby. Because cricket is only highlights on free to air television, highlights will be shown after the conclusion of the rugby and football. The Golf is on the BBC before the soccer at 5pm. At that time, it switches to BBC 2. The Speedway is on a different Sky channel, at the same time as the cricket. The Formula One is flagship on ITV, but due to them hosting a plethora of rugby matches, the qualifying will only be highlights at 11:10pm! However, the race will be shown live on the Sunday.
So what a day! Sport will run continuously from lunchtime until about 8pm on Saturday in particular, an incredible amount of sporting action all held on the same weekend. You'd think the schedulers would have seen this in advance, and as a result change it. The cricket, for example, could have been held the night before at Lord's (the game today was held at The Oval, both are in London). And they could have held the football at 3pm if the Beeb didn't want to deliberately go up against the ITV for the Rugby World Cup matches.
So much to choose from this weekend!
