Snow Wants Out

First baseman J.T. Snow has spoken to Red Sox management and requested a trade, according to an article published in today's Hartford Courant.
Snow signed a one-year, $2 million deal expecting to share time at first base with Kevin Youkilis. However, a combination of factors have derailed that plan. The injury to Coco Crisp pulled Youkilis into the leadoff hitter role, a job he has done admirably. Youkilis is hitting .309 on the year, with 20RBI and a .424 OBP.
Another element that changed was the success of new 3B Mike Lowell, who struggled mightily in 2005 with the Florida Marlins. With Lowell hitting .317 with 4HR, 23RBI, and 20 doubles, Red Sox manager Terry Francona rarely wants to take him out of the lineup. Originally, Youkilis was to get some starts at his old position of third base to increase his playing time while Snow saw time at first.
Instead, Youkilis and Lowell have developed into a stable duo at the corners for the Sox, both defensively and offensively. It seems likely that General Manager Theo Epstein will honor Snow's request, since that's been his policy in the past and it makes the most sense for the team.
