To emphasise the interval, here is a snooker based video. We often get these in between mini-sessions of a snooker match.
Matthew Syed is a former Table Tennis player for England, and he has since retired and writes for The Times newspaper. As a professional table tennis player, he played at The Crucible, and this is his homage to the game of snooker, and The Crucible Theatre.
Worth noting some of the cameos there... In order:
- 1:10 - Ronnie O'Sullivan - made the fastest ever 147 maximum break in 1997. He took only 5 minutes and 20 seconds.
- 1:51 - Cliff Thorburn - 1980 World Champion from Canada. He made the first ever 147 in the World Championship in 1983, and he's the person drinking the tea at 2:12. You see him potting the final black after that in his 147.
- 4:40 - Allister Carter and Mark Selby - 2007 World Championship, Selby led the Quarter Final 12-7 before Carter levelled at 12-12. They started at 2pm that afternoon at 5-3 to Selby. They had been at the table for all but one of the ten hours.
- 5:14 - Graeme Dott beat Peter Ebdon in the 2006 World Snooker Championship at 1am. They finished at 1am the previous day, and started on both days at 3pm.
- 6:29 - Jimmy White and Alex Higgins. White (at the table) is 44 and Higgins is 57. Higgins has throat cancer, and can barely talk.
Whilst we're here... for the record, the game is Table Tennis... Ping Pong is a trade name.
