Snooker Match - Frame 7

by user Alex Holowczak

Here once again is the continuation of the match between Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White, the 1992 World Snooker Championship Final.

So far

  1. Hendry made a 105 break to lead 1-0.
  2. White made breaks of 70 and 47 to level the match at 1-1.
  3. The closest frame of the match as Hendry won a black ball game after both players missed chances. He lead 2-1.
  4. White made a 100 break to level at 2-2.
  5. A tight frame that took over half an hour with a lot of safety exchanges. Foul and a Miss rule came into play before White went into a 3-2 lead.
  6. Hendry touched the black and called a foul on himself, but White missed his chance and Hendry won the frame to level at 3-3.

Frame 7

This is the concluding frame of this session, there is an interval of a couple of hours between this frame and the next one, enough time to have something to eat etc.

So the players now broke for their interval. There are still a possible 28 frames remaining, the next 9 of which were played on the Sunday evening.

There'll be something a bit different during the interval, so stay tuned for that.

Well, I'm glad that session ended--I was getting hungry!

At the beginning of the frame, White misses potting a ball in the side and the ball rebounds to almost go in the corner. If it had, would that have been OK? Or do you have to 'call' you pocket as you do in pool?

That would have been fine - you never have to call your pocket.

Once you have potted a red, you DO have to call the subsequent colour. Or at least you did, now you only have to announce it if there is any ambiguity as to which colour you are aiming at.

A time there is ambiguity is if it is touching a colour. Say the cueball is touching the black. You can nominate black and just hit away safely (or if you're foolhardy aim for a cushion back onto the black to pot it). However, if you nominate green, for example, you can then pot the green. But if you don't hit the green it's a foul, even though you are deemed to have hit a colour. You must nominate a colour if it's touching ball. If it is touching ball, you are deemed to have hit it already when you come to the table.
