Born on September 8, 1913 in Donelson, Tennessee, Slick Castleman (Clydell Castleman) played for the New York Giants for his entire 6 year career. Castleman broke into the bigs on May 9, 1934 with the New York Giants, and put up a 4.09 ERA in 173.2 innings pitched in 1935, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Slick Castleman's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1935, when he posted a 4.09 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 64 batters. However, others believe that it was 1937, when he posted a 3.31 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 78 batters.
