Skeeter Newsome (Lamar Ashby Newsome) was born on October 18, 1910 in Phenix City, Alabama. He made his Major League debut on April 19, 1935 for the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1935, his rookie year, he hit .207 with 1 home run and 10 RBI. Newsome played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 12 year career.

Most people believe that Skeeter Newsome's best season was 1945, when he hit for a .290 average.
