Born on August 19, 1955 in Santiago, Santiago (Dominican Republic), Silvio Martinez (Silvio Ramon (Cabrera) Martinez) played for the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 5 year career. Martinez broke into the bigs on April 9, 1977 with the Chicago White Sox, and put up a 3.64 ERA in 138.1 innings pitched in 1978, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Silvio Martinez's best season was 1979, when he posted a 3.27 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 102 batters.
