Born on January 11, 1868 in St. Louis, Missouri, Silver King (Charles Frederick King) played for the Kansas City Cowboys, St. Louis Browns, Chicago Pirates, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Giants, Cincinnati Reds and Washington Senators over the course of his 10 year career. King broke into the bigs on September 28, 1886 with the Kansas City Cowboys, and put up a 3.78 ERA in 390 innings pitched in 1887, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Silver King's best season was 1888, when he posted a 1.64 ERA, won 45 games and struck out 258 batters.
