Silva Willing to Sign For a Discount

Here is an article I received in an e-mail. It is titled Silva willing to sign at discount. I have copied and pasted the article here for all to read. I truly hope this is true, and the Minnesota Twins do sign Carlos Silva to a contract extension. Carlos has proven his worth, and would be a great addition to the Twins rotation. Although his record does not indicate it, Carlos has had many quality starts, and since the all star break, has all but one quality start. Keep in mind, the Twins have been shut out 6 time when Carlos has pitched, and 5 of those times the Twins should have won the game.

Here is a list of games Carlos has lost, when the Twins were shut out: April 7, White Sox 3 Twins 0; Silva pitched 6 innings, allowed 1 run, on 5 hits ' May 4, Red Sox 2 Twins 0: Silva pitched 7 innings, allowed 1 run on 5 hits' ' May 10, White Sox 3 Twins 0 : Silva pitched 6 innings, allowed 3 runs on 6 hits' ' June 2, A's 1 Twins 0; Silva pitched 8 innings, allowed 1 run on 5 hits July 3, Yankees 8 Twins 0, Silva pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowed 6 runs (5 earned), on 9 hits' ' August 6, Indians 4 Twins 0: Silva pitched 7 innings, allowed 2 runs on 6 hits. '

The article below talks about Carlos Silva wanting to stay in Minnesota, and how he and his wife are looking at buying property in order to stay here. Carlos' wife is a Minneapolis native, and they both wish to stay.

Here is the article:

Carlos Silva's agent recently told the team that the righthander would be willing to negotiate a discounted contract extension.

By Joe Christensen, Star Tribune Last update: August 11, 2007 – 12:43 AM

ANAHEIM, CALIF. — Twins pitcher Carlos Silva can become a free agent at season's end, but his agent recently told the team that Silva would be willing to negotiate a discounted contract extension. Silva, 28, is making $4 million this year, and the team's decision to pick up his option has proven wise. After struggling in 2006, Silva enters tonight's start against the Angels at 9-12 with a 4.51 ERA. His record could be better, but Silva has received the lowest run support of any Twins starter besides Matt Garza, at 4.2 runs per game. The Twins have been shut out in six of Silva's 23 starts. Silva's wife is a St. Paul native. They had their first child in June and are planning to purchase a Twin Cities home. As a free agent, Silva would seem to have a better bargaining position than Jason Marquis did last year after going 14-16 with a 6.02 ERA for the Cardinals. Marquis wound up getting a three-year, $21 million deal from the Cubs. Silva's agent, Peter Greenberg, told the Twins his client wouldn't need to test the market if they wanted to negotiate now. As with Torii Hunter, the Twins said they would wait until season's end. Asked about the talks Friday, Silva said he hopes to stay. "Definitely," he said. "This is the team I feel comfortable with. My friends are here. But sometimes it's not in our hands. This is my priority, and [the Twins] know that." As for the potential discount, Silva said, "We have a saying [in Venezuela] that the rich people are already complete. We don't have to get the most money." Signing Silva could increase the Twins' chances of signing his countryman and fellow Greenberg client Johan Santana, a free agent after 2008.
