You wont catch me writing such titles as:
- Silva lit up like Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center, Tribe waltzes 8-3.
- "Silva is worth nothing, Gold is; Indians Proved It"
- "We're paying this guy 4.325 million a year for THIS?"
- "One of the main reasons why Santana wants to leave"
- "In a slump? Can't find a way out? Call Carlos Silva! The league hits .283 off him!!!"
So my title will have to do for all you jokesters about Carlos Silva. However, the article below will appear on my blog page, and a portion of it will appear in the game summary section. I will also post a game summary after every Twins game, so if interested, check it out. So, here is the article, minus the game recap:
Paul Byrd did it again to the Minnesota Twins, as he continued his dominance over their offense in an easy 8-3 victory last night at Jacobs Field. The loss has put the Twins in a must win situation, if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Paul Byrd has been a thorn in the side of the Minnesota Twins this season, with an impressive 4-0. Byrd demonstrated the same ability to keep Minnesota runners of the bases last night, as he pitched six innings, allowing three runs, on six hits, striking out none and walking one. Byrd has allowed 11 runs, on 27 hits, striking out 9, and walking 4 Twins batters in 29 innings, all season long. Paul Byrd is not a spectacular pitcher, but has for some reason kept the Twins baffled. Byrd's victories came in a 15-7 win on May 15 against Ramon Ortiz, 10-4 on July 27 against Boof Bonser, 4-0 against Carlos Silva on August 6, and 8-3 against Carlos Silva last night. Byrd is not dominant over all, but has controlled the Twins offense this season.
Carlos Silva however had his worst start all month. Silva lasting three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs, on seven hits, striking out none, and walking two. Until last night, Carlos was 1-1 with a 1.66 era in August. After getting shelled, he is now 1-2 with a 3.13 era. In Silva's last start against the Indians, on August 6, he pitched very well, lasting seven innings, allowing only two runs, on five hits, recording six strike outs, and only one walk. Such was not the case for Carlos last night. Carlos Silva is now 10-13 with a 4.33 era this season. Silva struggled terribly last night, as he walked the lead off batter in the game, and allowed him to score as well. The undoing of Carlos Silva's string of five consecutive quality starts was a four-run fourth inning, that knocked him out from the game.
The Twins' offense was kept off the bases, collecting 8 hits, and only one walk off Indian pitching. Only three of the nine base runners scored, and the Twins offense stranded three runners, of which two were in scoring position. The Twins offense also hit into one double play, and one triple play.
What's left for Carlos Silva is to see how well he rebounds in his next start. This was Silva's worst start of the month, and he needs to get back up on his horse, and rebound quickly. Last night's loss ended Silva's streak of five consecutive quality starts. Since the all star break, Silva has had 6 of 9 quality starts. A quick rebound for Silva will help keep Minnesota's darkening hopes of a post season appearance alive. Carlos' next start is on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals at the Metrodome.
The Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians will resume their three game series tonight, as Boof Bonser gets the call for Minnesota, and Jake Westbrook will go for the Indians. game time is set for 6:05pm CST.
