Carlos Silva pitched another great game yesterday afternoon, and Michael Cuddyer hit the fourth grand slam of his career, as the Minnesota Twins beat up on the Seattle Mariners 8-4.
Starter Carlos Silva had another great outing, pitching seven innings, allowing 2 runs, on eight hits, striking out three and walking none, while earning his tenth win of the season. With yesterday's much needed win for Silva, he now stands at 10-12 with a 4.10 era. He is now 1-1 with a 1.61 era in August. Carlos has been plagued with a lack of run support this season, but that was definitely not the case yesterday afternoon. The Minnesota Twins tagged Seattle starter Miguel Batista with seven runs in the first inning, and one more in the second, knocking him out of the game, and making it the earlies exit of an opposing pitcher this season. Minnesota scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, off a Michael Cuddyer grand slam, and singles from Jason Kubel, Michael Cuddyer. Garrett Jones' single scored Kubel from second, and advanced Cuddyer to third. A Nick Punto sacrifice fly to deep center field scored Mike Redmond, and an Alexi Casilla triple scored Garrett Jones, to round out a seven run first inning. In the bottom of the second inning, a lead off double from Torii Hunter and a two out single from Jason Kubel, allowed Toroi to score the Twins eighth and final run of the game. Seattle scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, on a solo home run from Ben Broussard. A ball that was almost caught by left fielder Jason Kubel. A Willie Bloomquist single, followed by Yuniesky Betancourt's triple, scored Bloomquist from first, to end the scoring for the Mariners. The last two Mariner runs came in the top of the eighth inning off of Pat Neshek. The usually dominant Neshek allowed a lead off double from Adrian Beltre, and a triple from Jose Guillen to score Beltre. Then Raul Ibanez hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score Guillen from third. Seattle's starter Miguel Batista was knocked out of the game early, lasting only two innings, allowing eight runs, on nine hits, striking out one, walking one. He also allowed the grand slam from Micahel Cuddyer. Reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith pitched a dominant hitless and scoreless four innings, striking out six, and walking two. John Parrish was the final Mariner pitcher, lasting two innings, allowing, no runs on five hits. The Minnesota Twins will now travel to Baltimore to face the Orioles in a four game weekend series. NICE JOB CARLOS SILVA & GO TWINS!!!!!!
