Sidney Crosby: Sale of the Century

Hockey is on the outs, no question. The ratings for the Stanley Cup Finals were historically low on NBC as well as Versus (yes, that is a cable network, not some ultimate fighting tournament on Fox Sports Net).
What the sport needs, obviously, is another Wayne Gretzky. Sadly, that's never going to happen. But the Next Best Thing, playing his brand of puck near a cross-section of three rivers, is one Sidney Crosby. So good for the Penguins, still hung over from the loss of Mario and the Formerly Mulleted One, to lock up Crosby for five years at the bargain-ish price of $45 million.
Hockey is a different game with the salary cap in place, but the sport needs stability with its superstars. Nationally televised broadcasts from the Igloo should now become mandatory viewing as Crosby, the newly christened MVP, only now enters his prime. (A scary thought for opposing goalies, no?)
