Born on February 18, 1891 in Monticello, Georgia, Sherry Smith (Sherrod Malone Smith) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Brooklyn Superbas, Brooklyn Robins and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 14 year career. Smith broke into the bigs on May 11, 1911 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.59 ERA in 173.2 innings pitched in 1915, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Sherry Smith's best season was 1916, when he posted a 2.34 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 67 batters.
