Sheffield Knowingly Took Steriods

14
Vote

According to the book Game of Shadows, New York Yankees OF Gary Sheffield knowingly took steriods. The same book alleges that San Francisco Giants OF Barry Bonds also took steriods to enhance his performance. Sheffield's HR output did improve after the 1998 season; however, after the 1998 season Sheffield remained healthy. From 1989-1997, Sheffield hit 176 HRs. After the alleged steriod abuse, Sheffield hit 269 HRs.

What about Benito Santiago or Randy Velarde? They were called out in the BALCO case but no one ever mentioned them. Do they get a free pass at using steroids just because it didn't work as well for them?

In my mind its a tough call--a bunch of players decided to use these drugs and everyone from the league to the owners to the managers to the fans tacitly approved of these players using the drugs. On the other hand, the use of the drugs just showed that a substance might have more to do with athletic excellence than training or god-given ability.

Is it me or is this whole steroids thing starting to turn into a joke? It's like a game of where's Waldo tryng to guess who took steroids. Is Selig even launching any sort of investigation into the recent publications outing Bonds and Sheffield?

Launching a Pete Rose-like investigation would be the worst possible decision by Selig. The investigation would uncover so many faults and secrets of MLB, everyone in the game from the players to front office to the commissioner himself would all end up being hurt by any in-depth investigation into steroid use

Oh, well, since you put it that way, I'd rather just let everyone off than uncover secrets of MLB. Boy, what was I ever thinking?

everyone knew sheff, bonds, giambi, mcguire, sosa were doing roids. We all tacitly approved, buying tickets to games, jerseys, and rooting for them. It was the white elephant in the room that everyone knew about, but no-one was talking abotu

The true irony is that steroids "saved" baseball during the epic HR chase but may now destroy the integrity of it. And as for Bonds, if he didn't use roids and HGH then he has a massive tumor in his head b/c that thing has mushroomed in size.

Enybo...what good would it do the MLB to catch people who took steroids before there was a punishment for it. Are they going to suspend Bonds or Sheffield for 15 games, the current punishment for a failed test? Can they enforce rules that did not even exist? What good would it do MLB to further taint McGwire/Sosa, which brought so many fans to the game? I was saying it would be a dumb decision for Selig to launch a steroids investigation about past users. Do you disagree?
