Ben Sheets threw a strong seven innings in his first outing since May, giving up just one run (a home run to former Brewer Jeromy Burnitz) on six hits while striking out five and walking none.
However, his performance was left out to dry by his teammates as the Brewers scored just one run on a Prince Fielder home run, and Dave Bush gave up five runs in the eighth in relief as the Brewers lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fielder's home run was his 18th of the season, which leads all major league rookies and also broke the Brewers' franchise record for most homers by a rookie, a mark previously held by Greg Vaughn.
Prior to the game, Milwaukee announced they had acquired Tony Graffanino from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for left-hander Jorge De La Rosa, who was working in Double-A Huntsville on a rehab stint.
